Description

The Hollenback is a double ended dental carver used to shape and refine restorative materials. Its thin, knife like blades create crisp anatomy and clean margins on amalgam, provisional cements, and wax patterns. The mirror image tips reach interproximal areas and along matrix bands where bulkier carvers struggle. Balanced handling and a textured handle give precise control for fine detailing.

Key features and benefits:

  • Slim, sharpened blades for accurate carving without tearing the restoration.

  • Mirror image ends to approach mesial and distal surfaces efficiently.

  • Narrow profile for interproximal access and finishing marginal ridges.

  • Rigid, well balanced shank that transmits tactile feedback.

  • Knurled stainless steel handle that is easy to grip with a light hold.

  • Medical grade stainless steel, autoclavable and resharpenable for long service.

Typical uses:

  • Sculpt occlusal grooves, triangular ridges, and embrasures on posterior restorations.

  • Refine proximal and gingival margins, remove small overhangs, and define contact areas.

  • Contour interim restorations and IRM bases.

  • Wax carving in the lab for inlays, onlays, and crowns.

  • Teaching clinics for learning anatomy and margin control.

How it compares:

  • Cleoid–discoid carvers excel at scooping fossae. The Hollenback’s straight, thin blade is better for proximal surfaces, flat planes, and finishing along bands.

  • Plastic composite instruments reduce stick with resin. A Hollenback remains useful for contouring after partial set or for trimming excess.

Care:

  • Rinse and clean immediately after use, sharpen as needed, and sterilize according to standard protocols.

Choose the Hollenback when you want sharp detail, smooth margins, and predictable control across daily restorative and lab work.
